Seanua is a multicultural project based in the West of Ireland, featuring musicians from around thirty countries in the World.
This album is a cross genre fusion from early Christian Celtic music to Indian, reggae, opera, African, Irish harps and haunting experimental mixtures among others. This album has members from Ireland, Sweden, Zimbabwe, Australia, India, England, Russia, Nigeria and more!
Senua initially emerged from a research into newly arrived cultures and their integration into Galway City called "Sean Agus Nua". "Sean Agus Nua" was featured in TG4 and an album was released in 2007 with the name "Sean agus Nua - Egsulacht".
THE SEANUA album was recorded and produced by Shay Leon, originally from Israel and now living and working for many years in Ireland.
The premise of the album is, "bringing cultures together through music," and the album includes a number of diverse acts from rock to Indian covering many different musical genres including The Bahh Band, Maja Eliott, Rosie Ellis, Fred Johnston, Helen Webb, Ceremony, and Sylvia Crawford, The Big Sing and Veronica.
The Bahh Band who are based in the west of Ireland, are an experimental acoustic group who mix Indian Classical tradition with groove and blues.
Rosie Ellis has lived in Galway since the 1990s and her musical influences range from blues, jazz and traditional. Maja Eliott is a singer and pianist and a composer of Swedish/Irish and English ancestry. Her music style is comprised of rich classical/folk and experimental sounds. Helen Webb is an established vocalist and composer who performs in many Europian countries. There are other prominent acts like Ceremony who invoke sounds simular to those of the age of the high kings, Sylvia Crawford and Fred Johnston, talented Breton and Irish performers, The Big Sing who are a multicultural choir and a talented Asian female artist called Veronica.
